UK Young Professional Scheme Reopens for Indians

The United Kingdom, the land of royals, has officially reopened the second and final ballot for the 2025 Indian Young Professional Scheme (YPS), from July 22 at 1:30 PM IST to July 24 at 1:30 PM IST.

Indian nationals aged between 18 and 30 with an eligible qualification can apply for this ballot scheme online without paying a single penny, for the remaining 3000 spots in the competitive youth initiative scheme.

In this article, we are going to provide complete details about the ongoing ballot procedure and how you can secure a spot in the ballot. But, first let us understand the meaning of the Young Professional Scheme (YPS).

What is the Young Professional Scheme for Indians in the UK?

The visa scheme is part of UK-India bilateral Youth Mobility Partnership, which was launched in february 2023. It works as a reciprocal program which allows young Indians and British citizens to live, work, study, travel, and even start a business in the other country, for upto two years.

Through the YPS, successful Indian applicants are entitled to:

  • Work in the majority of roles, including part-time, full-time, and self-employment (based on the criteria.
  • Study at a UK educational institution (some universities require ATAS).
  • Travel, live on own, or start a micro-business (leased premises, ≤£5,000 of equipment, no staff).

Though the visa can’t be extended past 24 months, it does not cover family dependents, and holders are excluded from a majority of public benefits or professional sports jobs.

Why did the UK reopen this ballot?

3,000 YPS visas are reserved for Indians in 2025. The initial quota was issued through a February ballot, and the remaining will be met during the July round. According to official notification, this is the final opportunity to apply in 2025

Conclusion

The ballot on July 22–24 offers a final opportunity in 2025 for young Indian professionals to secure one of the coveted 3,000 free entry spots in the YPS. With a two-year UK residence requirement, no need for an employment offer, and the ability to work, study, or start entrepreneurial ventures, it’s a golden opportunity—though winning depends on luck in this lottery.

If you’re eligible (18–30, degree, funds, no dependents, no prior YPS/YMS), stay alert, mark your calendar for July 22 at 1:30 PM IST, and prepare your passport scan and contact details ahead of time.
